Want to cut your ADHD stress in half this year? Let's get your system set up in 45 minutes. Limited to 10 spots in January. Book here.
It's 2026. You’ve made your list. You're excited. You’re motivated.
There are 47 things you want to accomplish.
Launch the side project. Get promoted. Build better systems. Exercise more.
Finally organize your workspace. Learn that new framework.
Read 12 books. Fix your sleep schedule.
You try to do everything at once. Three weeks later, you're burnt out and nothing is done.
I see this all the time with ADHD techies and startup founders and their work too:
One ADHD founder came to me extremely overwhelmed with her top 13 business goals. Increase profits, do customer analysis, fix a volume problem, finish work on her core business model.
All important things, but constantly cycling only took time and energy away from her ability to execute.
Another ADHD engineer showed me a list of hundreds bugs and features to unblock a product launch. All felt equally necessary and needed to get done ASAP.
The problem? He kept delaying the launch indefinitely.
Realistically, you don't need more ideas and goals.
You need better prioritization.
My Extremely Uncomplicated ADHD Prioritization Method
With ADHD brains, everything FEELS equally important. Some contributing factors:
Low working memory makes it impossible to hold all the tasks long enough to compare them
Time blindness makes everything feel like it needs to happen NOW
Shiny new options create higher dopamine hits, making them seem more important than they are
To counteract this, forget typical productivity advice and complicated prioritization matrices. Instead:
Stop trying to brute force your executive function
Get realistic about NOW vs NOT NOW
Less is more
Step 1: Brain Dump Everything
Get it all out of your head and onto paper.
Every goal, task, or idea that's been nagging you for the past 6 weeks. Big and small. Write it down.
The point is to externalize everything, to free up your executive functioning capacity. Once you do this, you'll realize a few things:
No wonder you're so overwhelmed
There truly are a lot of tasks. It's totally understandable that your brain feels chaotic.
The number of tasks is not actually infinite.
It just felt that way.
Externalizing gives your brain permission stop cycling.
Now you can actually think about your next step.
Step 2: Find Your ONE Priority for RIGHT NOW
Circle your top 3 priorities that will most positively impact your life.
Ask yourself:
If I could pick one thing to magically get done right now, what would it be?
Does the thing I picked directly depend on something else on the list?
If I wanted to hate my life the most in a year, which thing would I choose NOT to do?
These are the results you actually want. Regardless of how scared you are, how much work is required, or what distractions you can come up with to avoid change.
Of those three, pick the most impactful ONE.
This is the thing you are doing NOW. Everything else is NOT NOW.
The other two priorities? You should do them SOON. Tomorrow, later this week, or in a month. But they are still NOT NOW.
Step 3: Keep Brain Dumping
As you work on your NOW priority, other shiny new ideas will inevitably pop up.
Add them onto your brain dump list until you've finished your current task.
Once your task is done, start back at Step 1. Your new task for NOW might be in your original top 3, or it might not—depending on what came up while working.
In the end, you’ll always be focused on the highest impact thing.
It’s important to go for everything you want. Just not all at once. =)
